Choose and perish

Superbowl 48 is coming to your TV in a week or so, and we'll all get the opportunity to root for a bunch of rich guys against the other rich guys.  Not to be lost among the endorsement deals and guaranteed free agent money that is sure to rain down on the victors is the question of the spoils.
What do you get the all pro QB who has everything?

More importantly, who do you want to win?

Luckily, the Bugatti Veyron configurator is here to help answer both questions.  Do you prefer Bronco

or Seahawk flavored Vitesse? Not to be a cop out, but I actually like them both, in a Cartier vs. Bill Blass designer Mark V kind of way.  What's your choice?

Scottsdale Auction week: The grail cars

We'll see more detailed shoots of these in the coming days and weeks, but here is a gallery of the OMG They're real! cars from the week.

Scottsdale Auction Week: Who is Andy Hurwich

and why is he following us around Scottsdale?
[Ed.:  This post seems to have gathered the attention of the Googles today (3/31/14).  FWIW, we do not usually out the names of car owners.  Frankly, we could give a shit who owns or drives the grail cars we find unless it's us, or unless that person is signing a check made out to us. However: a- The car came with a sign announcing the owner to the whole world, and b- he was at Gooding, when we were, which seemed impossibly coincidental and c - First Amendment. ]

Barrett-Jackson 2014: a Little Ain't Enough

No, you're NOT seeing double.  This is just a taste of the duplication this year.  We lost track of how many orange 1970 Boss 302 Mustangs were there for the taking. It's not just a Russo and Steele thing. Want a 1957 Pace car?

Russo and Steele 2014: World Premiere

We first (re-)discovered the 1957 Lincoln Premiere when we stumbled upon three carcasses in Miami AZ. Before then, Lincolns older than 1960 just didn't register.  Now you can't swing a dead cat without hitting one, or so it almost seems.  We saw the Barrett Jackson convertible.  Not to be outdone, Russo and Steele checks in with a Coco Chanel hardtop.

We did the Scottsdale auction tour yesterday:

  • Russo and Steele for a press breakfast and a walkthrough.
  • Barrett-Jackson for lunch breakfast leftovers and some auction action.
  • Gooding, for OMG GRAIL CARZZZ part 1.
  • RM on a lark.  Credential sign up on site and OMG GRAIL CARZZZ part 2.
  • Bonhams, because it was on the way back to B-J.
  • Barrett-Jackson for lunch and some more auction action.
Drew Alcazar of R&S spoke about the segmentation of the auctions, and how each is a better fit for certain sellers, certain buyers, and certain cars.  (I would say that is true for certain media as well.) Lists?  Lists.

Russo and Steele 2014: Ultra-Rare 1969 Yenko Camaro with Original Engine and Bulletproof Documentation

[Ed.: Sounds sorta like Superstar's from long ago.]
1969 Chevorlet Camaro YenkoScottsdale, Arizona (December 30, 2013) – The race-bred brainchild of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania’s Don Yenko, one of America’s premier road-racers and high-performance Chevy dealers, the Yenko Camaro remains one of the quickest and most-coveted American supercars of all time. Just 198 were built for 1969, courtesy of Chevy’s infamous COPO factory-ordering pipeline with the 425-horsepower L27 427 “big-block” engine at their core. While small in numbers, Yenko’s monstrous 427-powered Camaros ruled the street and strip with equal authority and they continue to epitomize Chevrolet’s 1960’s high-performance cars. Today, no serious high-performance collection is complete without one.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: Another Grail Car to Check Off

This time, a Ferrari F40, close enough to touch.
1991 Ferrari F40

The Fast N' Loud Gas Monkey Garage F40 rebuilt/restored by some of the best in the industry. M. Luongo lead tech Ferrari and Lamborghini certified, Stuart Singer expert in Ferrari restorations, paint, body and chassis. Aaron Kaufman, Richard Rawlings and the Gas Monkey crew. The build started with a one-owner, clear Texas title F40 with 7,148 actual miles that was damaged in the left front. The F40 was disassembled all the way down to the bare chassis for a full rebuild/restoration with the main goal from day one to make this F40 better, straighter, lighter and faster than a stock F40. Great attention to detail by Stuart's to make the chassis better than factory tolerances. The goal was achieved with the use of the best chassis machines available. To make it faster, TUBI competition exhaust was added, the turbos were upgraded internally keeping the factory cases, aluminum flywheel with Kevlar clutch pack and dyno tuned the car. Next handling 1-offset of HRE 3-piece race wheels, special F1 adjustable shocks made specifically for this F40 by Penske Racing. The result is a stunning, fresh, fully-restored, fully sorted, ready to enjoy F40. Dyno-tuned, track tested and cold A/C. This car is amazing to drive and those F40 aficionados/specialist that have driven the car say it is the best they have ever driven. CARFAX shows an accident reported on 08-17-2011. Vehicle damaged in multiple places, it hit a fence, severe damage reported, minor right side damage reported, vehicle towed, airbags did not deploy.

Barrett Jackson 2014: The Premiere

What a difference a garage and some TLC makes.  Instead of a carcass, you get a grand dame.
1957 Lincoln Premiere
Lot No. 730

Here is a fantastic find, a 1957 Lincoln Premier [sic.] convertible. This is a true hidden garage find from right here in Glendale, AZ. It was parked over 20 years ago in a garage. It has been gone through mechanically. It is currently in excellent running and driving condition with brand new white wall tires. It has its original leather interior. It is powered by the 368/300hp engine with an automatic. This car is very rare as it is one of only 3,676 produced. An amazing 1950s classic available to the public for the first time in over 40 years.
